Designed by the Turin-based sword maker Francesco Gravier in co-operation with the royal arms factory, this sword would become an iconic sword of Italy's unification period military. Taking influence from earlier military patterns, it would remain in service until 1888.

82cm long, 94cm overall and 3cm wide at the shoulders, the double fuller extends the length of the blade and it is engraved with stands of arms and the initials D D

The sword and handle are solid with no movement, and the blade and scabbard are free from marks or pitting.
