An 18th Century Plug Bayonet

18th Century Plug Bayonet from the Corsican region of Spain. It has a typical flat fronted brass guard and a dark hard wood handle, possibly ebony. The handle has an in period patch repair showing its has had an active life. The back edge of the bald has been aggressively ground down and sharpened to re-profile the tip, and the edge shows heavy evidence of sharpening.

Commonly used as hunting weapons after long after they had been replaced as military weapons, they were still inn use in Germany and Spain until the 19th century
