Victorian Overcoat Pistol

£675.00

Commonly known as an ‘overcoat’ or ‘pocket’ pistol. These were carried mainly for civilian self defense against highwaymen or muggers. This excellent example dates from around 1840 with a percussion cap and a twist damascus barrel. The hammer holds firmly at full and half cock and has a crisp action.

The lockplate is engraved Mallott. James Mallott (1772-1860) was a small gunsmith from Diss in Norfolk operating between 1839 and 1854.
