The Sentiment of the Sword. A Country-House Dialogue - Capitan Richard Burton

£430.00

First edition of "The Sentiment of the Sword" by Capitan Sir Richard Francis Burton, having previously been printed in the periodical ‘The Field’. It is an exploration into the art of swordsmanship, interweaving historical narrative with a vivid portrayal of the skillful handling of the blade. Charting the sword's evolution from an indispensable instrument of battle for ancient warriors to its more ceremonial use in the modern age. Captain Burton was a well known polymath as well as a proficient swordsman, fighting several documented duels. This book details a dialogue over several evenings on the history and practices of fencing.

He was also know for his translations of 1001 Nights and the Karma Sutra.

The book is bound in a red morocco binding with gold edges to the pages and gold lettering on the cover and spine.
