L’abbat – The Art of Fencing or the use of the small sword

A copy of L’abbat’s book on small sword translated into English by Andrew Mahon and published in 1735. This is a reissue of the 1734 Dublin edition and was printed by William Bowyer near Temple Bar, 250 copies are recorded as printed in his records.

The book plate on the frontend is that of Sir Edward Wilmot, 1st Baronet (1693–1786). Who was a surgeon and physician to both George II and George III. Items with this plate can be found in the Welcome collection in London

This particular example in gold tooled calf binding is in good condition with slight rubbing to the cover and knocking of the corners and occasional minor spotting. The binding is firm and all of the plates are present.
