Impartial Journal of a Detachment from the Brigade of Foot Guards, commencing 25th February 1793, and ending 9th May, 1795,. by Robert Brown, 1795

A history of the Campaign in the Low Countries 1793-1795 by Corporal Robert Brown of 1st Battalion Coldstream Guards’ Grenadier Company

Corporal Brown describes the 1793-95 Low Countries campaign with near-daily journal entries. Operations included raids, and marching and counter-marching alongside Austrian, Prussian, Hanoverian, and other Allied contingents. This campaign kicking off the start of the Napoleonic Wars includes the fight at Lincelles (1793), Tourcoing (1793), and Tournai (1794) before moving to besiege Dunkirk.

An observant, engaging and well written account. Contemporary Eighteenth Century accounts by Other Ranks are rare,and this book conveys the soldiers’ experiences in an interesting and thoughtful way

Quarter leather cover, gold tooling on the spine, buckram boards and bookplate for R. Forster, owners inscription of the flyleaf. List of page numbers on second flyleaf relating to unknown. With a further inscription on the verso. Contemporary markings in pencil throughout see pg 50, 88 120, 130, 144,154,170,176,180,198,206,247,256. Markings in pen in a second hand pg 6,54,72. In excellent condition no tears or damage, textblock firm and no damage to the binding.
